Building Assessment/Structural Designer

Job Responsibilities:
General Summary:
The position of the Building Assessment/Structural Designer provides support for clients for a range of projects that do not fall into the “typical” engineering category. These services may include building/system assessments and upgrades, feasibility studies, sustainment and maintenance programs, emergency and disaster response/repair, and code compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct reports but interacts with all positions/ all levels/ all disciplines

Essential Duties:
• Responsible for assisting with servicing client needs for emergency and routine assignments
• Track workflow for clients including assisting close out accounting
• Assist managing multiple personnel and client assignments
• Interaction with multiple offices and professions
• Create/review condition assessment and other client deliverables
• Travel to perform site assessments which may include climbing ladders, platform access, tight spaces, equipment use, etc.
• Provide backup engineering support to the structural engineering department as needed


Job Qualifications:
Required Skills and Abilities:

• Conditional assessment, E2018 experience and field experience is a strongly desired.
• General understanding of building systems including civil/site, roofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and paving.
• Design software experience including Risa3D, RisaFloor, Enercalc, RetainPro. StructurePoint; (or similar) as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
• Ability to multi task and manage multiple projects and staff assignments.
• Ability to professionally communicate with clients and tend to client requests.
• Highly organized, detail-driven and conscientious
• Fluency in English and strong written, verbal, technical communication skills.
• US Citizenship or permanent residency required.
• Must be willing to travel with little notice and no travel restrictions (travel requirements 20% typically).

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in structures
• 4 years of experience with at least 3 working with existing buildings and renovations
• Registered professional/structural engineer or the ability to be licensed within 1 year of hire is required for advancement
